My work is a response to the world around me and to the paintings of the past. The canvas is an arena for the unexpected and a threshold between the inner and outer worlds. Irony and illustration do not interest me though humour does. Paint is a physical medium, much is implicit in its physicality; it has a life of its own which informs the work. In simple, non-representational language I try to make visible fleeting moments, unbidden thoughts and sudden inspirations which emerge from the seemingly ephemeral.
